King’s Coronation Street Party

The Coronation met “Coronation Street” as fans of both turned out in their hundreds for a street party with a twist.

Residents of Romiley dressed up as the legendary TV show characters and Royals to celebrate. It was the perfect opportunity to close a large section of Compstall Road to bring the community together and to showcase the talents of NK’s classes in front of the crowds.

Kicking off NK’s section was “King Is Born”, a piece choreographed by Hannah Thomas and Amy Earith for the occasion, and performed by our Studio 2 Street Dance and Contemporary members. We were treated to some nostalgia from Megan Voss and Sam Jeffries with songs from our award winning show We Will Rock You and followed by songs from our upcoming junior show Footloose. You can catch this at The Forum Theatre 12th – 15th July with tickets available here

With lots of community support and donations from local businesses, over 70 dogs took part in the dog show with all King Charles Spaniels taking a rosette home plus many other categories judged by the current Miss Stockport Demi Nicole Lanigan.

Also singing were some special Disney guests, Anna (Olivia) & Elsa (Emily), The Fairy Godmother (Freia), Jessie (Amy) and Sleeping Beauty (Lisa). They spent the day providing photo opportunities to the many children and sing-a-long songs which the crowds joined in. Everybody got to wear a crown thanks to Romiley WI who provided a crafts table for children young and old to make their own crowns too, while Sustainable Living Romiley had a table for people to plant seeds.

Megan performed with Ella Horsfiled their award winning Street Dance Duo and completing the dance section was the incredible competition class VIBE with their spectacular performance of “Homecoming”.

The final performance of the day was from some of our NK Rock Band members performing 3 songs and closing the party for us.

A huge thank you to those who volunteered on the day to chaperone, set up, give out leaflets, sign up new members, everyone who joined in the celebrations, those who organised it and those who donated to make it happen. Same time next year?

If you can’t wait that long, we will next be performing at the Made in Manchester Festival Romiley – 16th & 17th September. This always sells out so make sure you grab your tickets early.
