NK Theatre Arts Logo

NK Theatre Arts is currently in its 33rd year, having originally been formed as Northern Kids Theatre Company based in Tameside back in 1988. We were one of the very first Youth Theatres to perform annual shows at The Tameside Hippodrome in Ashton-under-Lyne and we were the first port of call for Artistic Events and School Activities throughout Tameside.

Becoming a Registered Charity in 1995, NK delivers weekly all-inclusive theatre workshop packages in Musical Theatre, Dance and Drama, for children, young people and adults. Regardless of ability, disability, status or culture, we are accessible to all. We are governed by a Board of Trustees and you can view all of our Charitable information here

Our Trustees will regularly review our safeguarding policy which is also available to download.

We entered into an agreement with Stockport Council in 2003 to move the organisation to our current home, The Forum Theatre. We are now able to present dozens of shows, plays and events each year here in Romiley and offer a wide variety of workshop sessions each and every week to our members.

We have been recognised for artistic achievements in recent years, having won numerous Manchester Musical Awards. We have been awarded Best Show in Manchester for Quadrophenia and Made in Dagenham and have also won awards for productions such as Gypsy, Fame, Footloose and The Wall. We are immensely proud to have won the special adjudicators award on 4 separate occasions. We are also now delighted be a member of NODA for the first time in our history. NK is also a champion for Theatre in Education, an avenue taken some 20yrs ago in Tameside and continues throughout the borough of Stockport and beyond.

We believe that so much can be learnt through the medium of performance and have toured local schools addressing pertinent issues such as Internet Safety, Anti-Social Behaviour, Drug and Alcohol abuse and many more with our theatre in education initiative which also sees us provide local schools with practitioners for after school clubs and PPA cover as well as providing theatre experience days and working as part of Stockport Council’s Schools Linking Scheme.

NK is proud to put the community at the heart of everything we do. We promote self-belief, an all-embracing team spirit and empathy for others regardless of ability, disability, status and culture as we help everyone maximise their full potential in the exploration of Performing Arts and gain invaluable life skills and confidence.

We strive for excellence in a theatre experience for everyone who visits The Forum, not just for NK events, but those presented by the many other community groups who use our facilities throughout the year.

We were delighted to play host to Sir Ian McKellen as part of his 80th birthday celebrations as he helped us raise funds for our brand new auditorium seating which was installed in the summer of 2019, assisted by funding received from The Arts Council, The Garfield Western Foundation and The Foyle Foundation.
